Matt Hrenak, owner and founder of Spring Green Building & Design, works directly with homeowners in the North Carolina counties of Watauga, Wilkes, Ashe, Avery and Caldwell. He offers free estimates and believes that solid, up-front advice saves homeowners money and stress. In his years in the construction business, he has learned that one of the keys to a seamless building process lies in the initial planning. Spring Green begins projects by meeting with all subcontractors early on to minimize confusion and waste, and homeowners receive a healthy home plan before anything is built onsite.
Hrenak holds a B.A. in Environmental Engineering. He entered the construction field in 1999, seeking to meld his dedication to green philosophies with craftsman-style work. In part, this move was inspired by his maternal grandfather, a carpenter who often built Hrenak unique, handcrafted wooden toys. Hrenak’s transition from engineering to building melded his scientific background with his artisan sensibility. It is a marriage that has resulted in a trademark attention to detail, outstanding problem-solving capabilities, and excellent workmanship.
Hrenak has experience in a variety of building styles including natural building techniques like straw bale, earth ship, and cob rammed earth homes. He has also has a wealth of experience building conventional and modified conventional homes, which are commonly referred to as “stick built.” Hrenak likes to say that he has played a role in building “nearly every type of home known to man,” and his experience is rounded out by ICF, timber frame, advanced framing and SIP panel structures. In short, no matter what your preferences might be, Spring Green is capable of making your dream a reality.
